Located just off the A55 near Hawarden in North Wales is Ewloe Green County Primary School, one of the top Schools in the area. Like all Primary schools though, there is rarely enough funds to cover educational needs and the school desperately needs funds for their new computer suite.
Enter the Ewloe Green Goblins!
For the majority of the team, this was their first time dragon boating and even though most of them had never even seen a dragon boat - much less paddled in one - they were not prepared to let little details like that stop them from enjoying the day!
Their first race saw them dispatch the more experienced River Rats with a 1:34:25 compared with the Rats 1:41:16 - and then repeat their success in their second round race with a one and a half second win against the Watkinson Black team who were returning for their third year of dragon boating. Buoyed by their success, they then proceeded to win their third round race as well in a dramatic 1:29:98 vs 1:31:41 win over the Alley Cats.
Although not quite good enough to make the final rounds, the Ewloe Green Goblins are determained to make sure that the winner's trophy in 2008 has their name in it!
As for the school? The organisers of the Ewloe Green Goblins team expect in the region of £500 - £600 to be raised for the school, which will go a long way towards helping fund their new computer suite.
