We would like to give special thanks to Lisa Jones and her River Rats dragon boat team for helping to raise money for the Chester Childbirth Trust in 2005 and the Human Milk Bank Appeal, 2006 ... 2009. With over one hundred funds all needing help and support, the Chester Dragon Boat Festival is a great way to have loads of fun whilst raising money to help us."
The Countess of Chester Hospital Human Milk Bank Appeal (9124):

This is part of the Special Care Baby Unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
Every year the Special Care Baby Unit cares for about 300 sick and premature babies and recent research has proved that these babies can have their chances of survival and long term development increased substantially if fed with breast milk. However without the support of donations of milk from other nursing mothers, these poorly babies often do not receive sufficient quantities of this precious milk from their own mothers.
Although the donated milk is given freely by donors, it costs over £40 to collect, test and store each litre of milk. The Human Milk Bank Appeal was set up in 2001 to raise £25,000 to establish this vital service for the Chester Ellesmere Port and North Wales areas. Fund raising is continuing to cover the annual costs of running the service.
You can help by:
Supporting fundraising events
Sponsoring a piece of specialist equipment (in the initial setting up stage)
Sending a donation
Becoming a milk donating mother
For further information contact Lynda Coulter or Dawn Freeman on 01244 365046
The Human Milk Bank was officially opened by Her Grace The Duchess of Westminster in September 2003. However regular donations are still needed to maintain this vital service on an annual basis. Please make cheques payable to and send c/o The Fundraising Office. As with all donations you will receive a written acknowledgement of your gift to us.
Representing the Countess of Chester Hospital’s were The River Rats, a team of staff and loyal supporters from the Special Baby Unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital, including Lynda Coulter who established the Human Milk Bank in 2003, as well as a group of parents, friends and colleagues. Their collective aim was to have fun – as well as raise money for the Human Milk Bank Appeal.
