Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is the most common disabling neurological condition affecting young adults. Around 85,000 people in the UK have MS.

MS is the result of damage to myelin - a protective sheath surrounding nerve fibres of the central nervous system.

When myelin is damaged, this interferes with messages between the brain and other parts of the body.

For some people, MS is characterised by periods of relapse and remission while for others it has a progressive pattern. For everyone, it makes life unpredictable.

The Multiple Sclerosis Society (Wales)

The MS Society Cymru (‘MS Cymru’) is part of the MS Society; the UK’s largest charity dedicated to supporting people living with and affected by MS. MS Cymru is committed to improving the lives of people affected by MS in Wales.

One of the MS Society's main objectives is to promote and fund MS research. We fund scientific and applied research in order to make the maximum impact on MS, and the quality of life of people affected by MS. Our fundraisers work hard to pump around 2 million pounds into research each year. But we also encourage others to fund MS research, for example, other funding bodies and relevant industries.
