The N.S.P.C.C.

The N.S.P.C.C. (as it is now known) was founded in 1884 by the Reverend Benjamin Waugh, a congregational minister who had worked in the slums of East London. In 1889 it changed its name to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty Children, Our aim is to see a society where all children are loved, valued and able to fulfil their potential. To do this, we have four objectives:

  • To mobilise everyone to take action to end child cruelty.

  • To give children the help, support and environment they need to stay safe from cruelty.

  • To find ways of working with communities to keep children safe from cruelty.

  • To be, and be seen as, someone to turn to for children and young people.

We have 180 community-based projects and run the NSPCC Helpline and ChildLine in the UK and the Channel Islands.

In short ... we need your continuing help to provide a safe refuge for abused children as well as maintaining a comunication lifeline for children in need of help and support!
