The Major Final

The Grand Final was a nail biting four-boat contest between the Albion Sailors team, the Albion Old Men, last year’s winners ‘Ooh Wallah Wallah’ from Wrexham and BHP Subsea from Northop - and the only team to sink last year!

Hundreds of people lined the banks in expectation, waiting as the teams lined up on the start.

A hush fell upon the crowd as the teams came under starters orders- and then they were off and in a frenzey of paddling, all four teams swept up the course almost as one.

To what must have seemed like a four boat draw to the ecstatic crowds, yet another photo finish was required to distinguish the eventual winners as all four teams crossed the line with less than a second between them!

Forth place went to the BHP Billiton’s team: BHP Subsea from Northop, who entered to support Tŷ Gobaith near Conwy.

Third place went to the Albion Sailors, supporting Claire House Children's Hospice.

Second place going to the Albion Old Men also supporting Claire House (and regaining their pride from the beating in the challenge match and proving there is still life in the old (sea) dogs yet), whilst

First place once again – but only just this year – by a minuscule 0.32 of a second were team ‘Ooh Wallah Wallah’ from Wrexham who entered to support the Toby Lloyd Cockbain Foundation.

‘Ooh Wallah Wallah’, Dragon Boat Champions of Chester for the second year running!
