Welcome to the Chester Dragon Boat Festival Website.
Set up as an Open Dragon Boat Festival that any local, regional and even national charitable cause can benefit from, the aim of the event is two fold:
1.To give people the opportunity to go dragon boating and benefit from expert instructors
on the day,
2.A fun way to help your favourite charity to raise much needed funds.
The event site is on the outskirts of Chester at Sandy Lane, between the Chester sailing base and a children's play area. The sport is suitable for both novice crews and experienced paddlers alike, dragon boating is highly progressive in that the skills and technique are very quick to pick up. So that every team gets the best out of the day, we give each team a number of timed qualifying races throughout the day and then use each team’s single fastest time for qualification into the Grand Final. The top teams will then go through to the Grand Final, which will be one last race using ALL the available dragon boats and is without doubt, the highlight of the day and usually the most impressive race as well.
If you have never been to one of our dragon boating events before, then this is what you can expect:
09:30 – Team Captain’s briefing.
09:40 – First four teams to be called up for briefing.
10:00 – Round 1 to begin.
12:30 – Round 2 to begin,
13:45 – Round 3 to begin
15:00 – Qualifying races completed.
15:15 – Finalists to be loaded and making their way up to the start.
15:30 – Grand Final Race
15:45 – Award Ceremony
16:00 – Festival End
